Wildcats earn decisive win in five-set affair against Washington State

Arizona volleyball defeated Washington State Friday night in five sets, finishing 1-1 on the week against the Washington schools. The biggest highlight of the night was setter Penina Snuka achieving her 1,000th career dig for the Wildcats.

Arizona won in a five-set (25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-13) nail biter. It was the first five-set match the team has won this season, dropping previous matches to Stanford and Texas.

The match was exactly what the UA needed after dropping a four-set affair to No. 6 Washington just days prior.

Kalei Mau led Arizona with 21 kills, while McKenzie Jacobson was second on the team in total kills, adding 11. Snuka assisted 46 times and added 16 digs as the Wildcats finished with 11 total team blocks to the Cougars 18.

Both sides showed defensive talent. Washington State and Arizona both hit under .160 for the match, with the Wildcats hitting its second lowest total of the season with .141.

Laura Larson added 22 digs to set her new career high.

After the win, Arizona boasts an overall record of 13-5, going 3-3 in Pac-12 Conference play thus far.

Up next for the Wildcats, the team heads West to take on No. 12 UCLA and No. 1 USC next weekend.
