Fiesta Bowl Queen ’06 a UA student

A UA student was crowned the 2006-2007 Fiesta Bowl Queen in Scottsdale yesterday, marking the second year in a row a UA student has won.

Stephanie Holland, a nursing senior, was awarded the title at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort and Villas following three months of interviews and appearances, according to a press release.

Originally from Glendale, Holland will represent the court throughout the football season, making appearances at events such as the parade, National Band Championship, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and Tostitos BCS National Championship.

“”I am so excited – I feel so honored,”” Holland said after being crowned last night.

One of four finalists, Holland was selected as queen based on her community involvement, scholastic achievement, poise, personality and an essay submission.

Holland, who has been interested in the Fiesta Bowl court for three years, said she feels her community involvement at the UA helped to secure the crown.

“”I hope to be an ambassador to the people,”” Holland said. “”I will give 110 percent and try to be the best possible spokesperson to the community.””

Holland is a member of the Chi Omega sorority, Mortar Board senior honorary and a former member of the UA water polo team. Of all of these achievements, Holland said she is most proud of her work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“”I love working with the children, and it ties perfectly into my nursing major,”” Holland added.

Keith Primeau, a molecular and cellular biology senior who is in Mortar Board with Holland, said he only has good things to say about her.

“”She is very involved, well-spoken, confident, beautiful and kind and caring to everyone she meets,”” Primeau said.

“”She is just a good person,”” said Molly Woodhouse, a finance senior and Mortar Board member. “”She’s a great balance, a dedicated student and an overall sweetheart.””

Holland will receive a scholarship incentive as Fiesta Bowl Queen, said Cassie Davis, publicity coordinator for the Fiesta Bowl.
