On the second day of their back-to-back swim meet home opener, the Arizona Wildcats’ swim and dive team came up short against Stanford. The women’s team fell to No. 1 Stanford 190-104. The men’s team fell to No. 4 Stanford 170-118.
Arizona junior Justin Wright and sophomore Chatham Dobbs turned heads with their individual performances. Wright took first place in the men’s 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:47.81, and Dobbs captured two first-place victories,one in the 50-yard freestyle (20.43) and the other in the 100-yard butterfly (48.61).
Hannah Cox built off her performance against California on Friday, finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle (4.50.58). Stanford’s Katie Ledecky, who owns the American record for the event, won the heat.
Cox won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:20.19. Junior Tjasa Oder finished second with a time of 4:29.88, and sophomore Mik Ranslem took home third place with a time of 4.33.63.
After a day mostly dominated by Stanford, Arizona will have one week to rest and recover from their grueling back-to-back swim meets next weekend.
Up next for the Wildcats is another two-day meet in Austin against the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns and the Wildcats will face off on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.
