The No. 10 Arizona gymnastics team hit the road for the first time this season to take on No. 12 Iowa State, but were unable to bring home the win against the Cyclones who dominated through the meet, 195.450 to 194.975.
The Wildcats gripped up on the uneven bars for the first rotation, but the ‘Cats came out with shaky performances leaving scores to remain constantly low. Anchor Christina Berg was the only GymCat able to break a 9.800 on the bars landing her full-in dismount.

The Cyclones senior Haylee Young brought the heat to end the first rotation on the vault earning a 9.900. Iowa State went into the second rotation with a .100 lead against the Wildcats.
Hoping to score higher during the second rotation, the GymCats headed to vault. Sophomore Maddi Leydin ran her way to the vault first performing a Yurchencko full, but took a step during the landing earning a 9.675. All-around gymnast Madison Cindric and freshman Peyton Bellows brought hope for the Wildcats both earning back-to-back scores of 9.825, but despite the solid scores, the Cyclones stayed in the lead with a score of 97.800 and the GymCats following behind with 97.500.
Tumbling their way to their third event on floor the GymCats showed dominance and skill during the routines. Junior Lauryn Mattson came to the floor with power and earned a 9.750. Anchor for floor, senior Kennady Schneider stuck her double back and scored a high of 9.875 to finish the third rotation.

It was a quick turn around for Schneider who started the final rotation of the balance beam earning a 9.750. Senior Victoria Ortiz hit a solid routine and stuck her dismount earning a 9.775. Cindric closed out the meet with a high score of 9.850. The beam has been the GymCats lowest scoring event since last season, but continue to improve on skill.
The GymCats will be back in McKale Center to kick off their Pac-12 Conference schedule and take on UCLA on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m.
