The last time the Arizona club hockey team played a game on Nov. 22, it left the ice disappointed and disgusted after allowing a goal in overtime in a loss to Colorado State, despite playing one of its better games of the season.
After 12 days away from the rink to reflect on the loss and a 3-7-1 record to start the season, Arizona attempts to get its season on track against Weber State tonight at 7:30 in the Tucson Convention Center.
“”After our last game we told everyone to take time off during the break but take a look in the mirror,”” said senior captian Nick Boddy. “”Hopefully we can get four wins and get momentum for the second half of the season.””
The Icecats have four games remaining this semester, two against Weber State this weekend and two against ASU next weekend. After the four-game stretch, Arizona will have three weeks off until their next game on Jan. 9, 2009 against Saint Louis University.
“”We have to finish in these next four games,”” said head coach Leo Golembiewski. “”We have to put the pedal to the metal in these games because this will determine what actions we will be taking in January.””
Golembiewski said there will be changes in the team’s lines and defensive pairings in order to get better results late in third periods, an area the Icecats have struggled in all season.
The Icecats won three of four games last year against Weber State, but the visiting Wildcats (11-4) are a better team than last season.
“”They have an excellent record. … We have our hands full,”” Golembiewski said.
The Icecats will attempt to improve their record to .500 by winning their last four games before the three-week layoff. This is very important for the squad’s chances at earning a berth in the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Championship Tournament.
“”If we want to go to nationals, I honestly think we have to go undefeated the rest of the season,”” said junior forward Cody Morin. “”We have start with this weekend’s games.””
