The No. 20 Arizona women’s golf team will take to the Stanford Golf Course this morning at 8:30 for the Stanford Intercollegiate tournament.
Head coach Shelly Haywood’s squad will attempt to better their seventh place finish in last year’s event. They will try to do so with a lineup of one senior, one junior, two sophomores and a freshman.
Sophomore Margarita Ramos, the No. 24 ranked individual women’s golfer in the college ranks according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, will assume the role as the team’s No. 1.
She was ranked amongst the top five in the nation after placing fifth in the team’s first event of the season — the Mason Rudolph Championship. But the Wildcats need her to bounce back from her 223, 7-over par in the team’s most recent tournament at the Windy City Championship.
Helping her shoulder the load will be fellow sophomore Isabelle Boineau. Boineau has a top 15 finish to her name in two events and boasts a 72.40 stroke average — second on the team.
Freshman Sherlyn Popelka will compete in her second career collegiate event coming off a top 15 finish at the Windy City Championship. Rounding out the Wildcat’s lineup will be senior Brittany Benvenuto and sophomore Alejandra Llaneza.
The tournament field will include four of the nation’s top 10 teams — No. 1 USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 ASU and No. 7 California.
