ASUA Establishes Plans for Campus Opportunity (Notebook 9/5)
On September 5, the Associated Students of the University of Arizona had another insightful meeting. Dedicating itself to developing new opportunities for students and faculty on campus, the Senate has not failed in developing a better community at the University of Arizona.
As the second formal Senate meeting of the year began this Wednesday at 6 p.m., the ASUA convened in the Pima Room in the Student Union Memorial Center to discuss a multitude of topics.

UITS Aspires to Make Computer Technology More Accessible and Efficient
Darcy Van Patten speaks on behalf of the University Information Technology Center, of which she is the executive director, on improving initiatives for student technology.
“Two initiatives that I have is one that I call Personal Digital U and it includes a portfolio of technology that students can have on their mobile devices,” she said. For this, Patton plans to have the technology side of campus connect with students on their needs based on their interests, major, career path, goals and grade level.
Along with the concise identification of benefits UA students have online, including access to Microsoft applications, UAccess, D2L and other resources, Patten also includes more information about her second initiative for Constituent Relationship Management.
Constituent Relationship Management is an initiative inspired to help students gain easier access to navigating technological resources at the UA. Even after adopting easier and more accessible databases, Patten strives to improve communication between students and UITS, who is responsible for websites such as UAccess and D2L.
They also troubleshoot student problems, maintain software on all computers and protect the UA from malware.
“Essentially, the goal is to deliver high quality across multiple channels of interaction,” she said. They are “also delivering technology to the people who support [students] so that they have face to face help to receive the same quality, consistent information.”

Committee and Senate Reports Continue to Thrive in New Ideas
Senator Brennen Feder partnered the ASUA with WEB in hopes to bring a new, positive aspect to the campus.
“We can distribute the tasks among committee members and provide social media outreach… to help the Senate grow more active on campus [in order] to provide something hopefully new and innovative,” he said.
Feder focuses on bringing committees together in order to enlighten the campus with new events, opportunities, and resources. New events are frequently proposed, like a dance marathon for charity.
“It is something we are hoping to look to in the near future,” he added.
Senator Bennett Adamson continues to look into Social and Behavioral Science clubs and organizations for new concepts and opinions. Whether it is sending emails, going to meetings, or sending out business cards, Adamson prepares for his long term goals of fundraising, establishing venue, and ensuring SBS clubs and organizations are known and represented on campus.
Senator Katie Christopher, Senator Olivia Johnson, Senator Sedona Lynch, and Senator Michelle Mendoza acquire similar opinions to establishing a campus clothing drive, specifically making it a college-wide event.
“Keep reaching out with me,” Christopher said. “I will potentially make a new committee to be the campus closet committee.”
