The Arizona men’s golf team got off to a rough start on Monday at the 2009 Pacific 10 Conference Championships in Seattle, Wash.
The squad shot 29-over-par to tie for eighth place with UCLA after the first two rounds of competition at the Seattle Golf Course.
UA sophomore Tarquin MacManus posted the squad’s best scores of the day as Arizona head coach Rick LaRose had predicted on Sunday. MacManus finished the day with a score of 4-under-par.
Senior Tyler Neal played the next-best round for Arizona, shooting 3-over-par at the 6,836-yard, par 72 course.
Washington, the host school, is sitting comfortably in first place after the first two rounds of play as it posted four fewer shots than second place University of Oregon. The true battles of the day appeared to be between ASU and Stanford – which are currently tied for fourth place – and Arizona and UCLA, two schools that will look to break their eighth-place tie as the third round of competition tees off today at 8 a.m.
