The Arizona women’s soccer team will host its final two home games at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium this weekend, taking on Colorado (7-7-3) at 3 p.m. on Friday and Utah (8-6-2) at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
“Both Colorado and Utah are well-balanced attacking and defensive teams,” head coach Lisa Oyen said. “We have reviewed video to help prepare our team for the weekend.”
Friday will be the second time the Wildcats have taken on Colorado. In their first meeting on September 30, 2011, Arizona tied Colorado in double overtime with a score of 2-2.
Midfielders Susana Melendez and Jessica Culver were the two Wildcats to score, as Melendez came off the bench to score the first goal of the game and her first for the 2011 season.
The game against Colorado will be a chance for the Wildcats to take the lead in the series and to end its eight-game losing streak.
Sunday’s game will also be an opportunity for the Wildcats to regain the series lead against Utah. Currently, the series record between Arizona and the Utes is tied at 5-5.
In their last meeting on October 2, 2011, the Arizona lost to Utah 3-1.
After last weekend’s devastating 5-1 loss to Oregon State, Arizona made the necessary adjustments to ensure the same mistakes won’t happen again.
“We have changed our defensive organization and also made an adjustment in our attack,” Oyen said. “All teams change throughout the season and we will continue to make refinements and revisions as needed.” – Iman Hamdan can be reached via Twitter @imanhamdanDW
