Blind Pilot, based out of Portland, Oregon, will be gracing Tucsonans’ ears with their laidback sound on April 9 at Plush. The band began with Israel Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski, but has grown into a family of musicians doing what they do best: jamming out.
“”The band, you know, evolved quickly,”” said drummer Dobrowski.
Two friends making music quickly evolved into a band that is slowly, but surely, gaining momentum.
“”We planned to record an EP and bike tour the West Coast… we did our CD release show and invited our friends who were musicians and it sort of just became the six of us.””
Yes, they toured the West Coast on bikes hauling all of their own equipment. While they have their influences, Blind Pilot did not start out trying to sound like anyone else.
“”I used brushes to drum because we were playing on the street, as my own way of mixing,”” said Dobrowski.
The drummer’s brushes are something that has come to define the band.””I could play with sticks, but they still sound too harsh to me,”” Dobrowski added.
