Junior Alison Walshe was selected as Golfweek Magazine’s Player of the Week after winning the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend.
Walshe finished the tournament with a 6-under-par 210 and shot a 5-under par 67 in the final round, which was the tournament low.
“”It’s just exciting,”” UA head coach Greg Allen said. “”It’s just another way to boost her confidence, and in this game, confidence is half the battle. She’s fired up and ready to go.””
The tournament was the first at Arizona for Walshe, who transferred from Tulane after the school cut eight sports from its program due to Hurricane Katrina.
“”This kind of puts her in a position to prove to our team that she’s ready to go, and that she’s certainly capable of winning a golf tournament,”” Allen said. “”It also helps the other players on the team to keep working hard because there are certainly other girls on the team who are capable of doing the same thing.””
