On Saturday night, true freshmen tailback Nicolas Grigsby and tight end Rob Gronkowski had career nights in a 48-20 win over Washington State. Grigsby had 262 total yards -ÿ186 on the ground, 76 through the air -ÿwhile Gronkowski had four receptions for 115 yards with two touchdowns. The Arizona Daily Wildcat caught up with the two to ask them about their favorite NFL team, being student-athletes and what team will win the World Series.
Wildcat: What’s your favorite professional football team?
Gronkowski: The Bills.
Grigsby: The Rams. They’re struggling right now, but they’re gonna get back on their feet.
W: What do you like about the Bills?
RG: They’re near my hometown (of Amherst, N.Y.). I’ve always been a Bills fan. They have the most players on a team that I know.
W: What other college team would you not want to play?
RG: (Long pause) LSU.
NG: It don’t matter. I feel we can compete against anybody.
W: What is the best thing about being a student-athlete?
RG: You’re never bored. You’re always going to class, or in the weight room training, or at the study table. You’re always active and you’re never bored. It’s a good thing.
NG: A lot of new stuff.
W: Who will win the World Series this year?
RG: The Phillies.
NG: Yankees.
W: Do you like the BCS system?
RG: I don’t even know how that works.
NG: Oh yeah.
W: There could be co-champions this year. What do you think of that?
RG: I don’t know. That’s pretty cool. I don’t even care, really.
NG: Oh, nah, nah, nah. I feel there’s only one champion. If there were two teams with undefeated records, I guess they should flip a coin or something.
W: Do you read the newspaper?
NG: Oh yeah, a lot of newspaper.
W: Do you read about yourself?
NG: Of course I like seeing myself in the newspaper, but I wouldn’t put it out there like that.
W: Does Stoops scare you?
RG: Sometimes, yeah.
NG: No, not at all.
W: What does he do that scares you?
RG: He looks at me crazy.
W: What college stadium would you want to play in besides Arizona Stadium?
RG: Penn State’s or Michigan’s.
NG: The Coliseum (in Los Angeles).
W: You looking forward to doing that this year (against USC)?
NG: Oh yeah.
W: When you watch football, do you like female sideline reporters?
NG: If they know what they’re talking about, more power to them.
W: What’s your favorite TV show?
NG: “”House.””
W: What’s your favorite music artist?
NG: Lil Wayne.
W: You like the new Kanye West CD?
NG: It’s all right.
W: Are you a ladies’ man?
NG: Of course.
