The Arizona men’s basketball team has it’s first verbal commitment for the class of 2009.
Again.
Greg Smith committed Monday to play for the Wildcats in ’09 after point guard Abdul Gaddy retracted his verbal commitment on May 26. Smith, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound center from Bethal High School in Vallejo, Calif., is ranked No. 7 in his class among centers, according to Rivals.com. Scout.com has him pegged at No. 5.
Smith will show up as forward Fendi Onobun completes his eligibility, and guard Brandon Jennings and forwards Jordan Hill and Chase Budinger likely depart to the professional ranks.
Smith, who transfered to Bethal two months ago, was Fresno (Calif.) Bee’s player of the year as a junior after he averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game for Edison High in Fresno.
