To all loyal Wildcat readers and newcomers:

A perfect morning at the University of Arizona goes a little something like this:

Sleeping in late because you set your schedule just right; grabbing a cup of Seattle’s Best coffee from Canyon CafǸ (I suggest the Cinnabon flavor); and sitting in a huge lecture hall – or a small classroom – reading the sports section of the paper.

Don’t be alarmed by changes in the latter, though. The section may look different to loyal readers, and that’s only because it is. And for those new to the section, welcome.

Look toward the top of page one to get a preview of what’s inside that issue or what’s already online. Grow accustomed to seeing “”Go Online”” and “”Go Inside”” for even more coverage.

One thing that will always hold true for Arizona students: They can always rely on the Wildcat for in-depth coverage of football and men’s basketball, but be prepared to know the ins and outs of every other sport the university fields a squad in.

And yes, that means Arizona athletics doesn’t just revolve around football and basketball.

That’s just the beginning. Here is a list of things you can come to expect from sports:

We’re finally in the 21st century

Although it’s about seven years into the millennium, we’re still playing a game of catch-up.

Missed out on the football game because you neglected to remember the deadline for Zona Zoo passes? Watch highlight reels of the game at www.wildcat.arizona.edu.

Want to know what our reporters think about your favorite Arizona sport? Read what they really wanted to say in their recaps on the Wildcat’s blog.

Continue to check the site for new blogs and videos.

The section’s first inside page will provide quick hits on anything and everything from top performers during the weekend to sports reporters dishing their thoughts on the weekend games.

Monday: Top Cats/Weekend: By the Numbers – Get acquainted with UA athletes from various sports and the performances you missed over the weekend. Also, take a gander at the sports numbers relative to Arizona. They may just surprise you.

Tuesday: Mailbag/Blogs – Read rants from angered and pleased readers, which you can send to us at sports@email.arizona.edu. Blogs that you, the readers, particularly enjoyed will be published so that no one misses them.

Wednesday: Athlete of the Week – Learn more about a UA athlete who is going above and beyond. Think you know who the athlete of the week should be? Let us know at sports@wildcat.arizona.edu.

Thursday: Pro/Con – Watch as two sports reporters go head-to-head on the issues in sports that week. This week: Should football’s Louis Holmes be suspended?

Friday: Staff Picks – Though often wrong, Wildcat sports reporters will choose which team they think will win that weekend. Compare them to your own picks.

So even if you are running late to your first class, don’t forget to pick up the sports section.

Really, though, what else do you need other than that and a cup of coffee?

    Yours truly,

    Melissa Krueger
