Weekly Wildcat Playlist: Summer jams

Lindsey Otto

Summertime is halfway over—it makes me wonder what everybody is doing these days. Some of us are at the beach, while some of us are chilling. Now, it’s time to have a little fun. Here are my top 10 summer jams, classic and regular, to get you grooving. Just keep on moving and enjoy your summer time.

10. “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars, one of the best rhythm and blues singers of the 2010s, starts this countdown. Mars surfaced in 2010 with “Just The Way You Are,” charming all the ladies. He performed at the Super Bowl twice and performed on the Grammys stage, honoring Amy Huston after she died. In this song, Mars sings about having a good time with a woman. The beat is catchy and dance-able for anybody. This song is on the top ten billboard and classified as a summer jam.

9. “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO

LMFAO is a group specializing in club techno and dance music. Their most popular song is “Party Rock Anthem,” creating a dance that rivals the “Cha Cha Slide” and “Cupid Shuffle.” This was one of the top songs in 2011, winning one Grammy and two VMAs. This song will always be a classic to dance to at the clubs—no one knows how to party like LMFAO.

8. “Low” By Flo Rida featuring T-Pain

Flo Rida is a well-known rapper. One of his most popular tracks is “Low” featuring T-Pain, which won a couple awards in 2008. One of the reasons it’s a classic is because it was featured in the Step Up movie. The song is all about getting crazy on the dance floor. Featured in every club as a classic banger, you must give credit to Flo and Pain because they know how to rock the club.

7. “Hands Up” By Mike G featuring Young Z and Renk Remy

Switching over to local 520 music is this newly released summer banger by yours truly. This track features Young Z and Renk Remy, two local rappers with great talent and amazing teamwork. My purpose for creating this song was to get everybody partying and moving on the dance floor. Newly released, we’re hoping to make a music video for this future classic.

6. “I Can Transform You” by Chris Brown featuring Swizz Beatz and Lil Wayne

Chris Brown had to have his own hip-hop dance single. To restore his reputation after brutally assaulting his ex, Chis Brown decided to come back to the spotlight with his 2010 album called “F.A.M.E.” On one of his singles for his comeback he teamed up with Swizz and Weezy, making it easy to reach the surface, along with an interesting music video, based on the Transformers films, with great choreography.

5. “Catch This Moment” by LiSA

Now we are going into some anime music. This track is the theme song to the recent movie, “Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale,” that took Japan by surprise in spring this year. It serves as a catchy theme for the movie and a dreamy hit for summer.

4. “Back It Up” by Prince Royce featuring Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull

We are entering the Spanglish era with this catchy banger. Prince Royce is one of the most well-known R&B vocalists in the Latin community. You can think of him as the Latin Bruno Mars. On one of the singles for his English album “Double Vision,” he teams up with J-Lo and Mr. Worldwide.

3. “Glamorous” by Fergie featuring Ludacris

This hit from 2007 features a member of the Black Eyed Peas during her solo career. Fergie was getting a lot of attention for her turn away from the group. This song gets a mention because it’s catchy and all about the glamorous lifestyle. As Fergie explains how it feels to be rich, Ludacris lends his rhymes to hype up the audience.

2. “Eye To Eye” by Powerline

Let’s dive into the Disney universe with this catchy song from “A Goofy Movie.” This movie is about Goofy and his son Max. In the movie, Max supports the most popular artist in the story’s universe, Powerline. The song is both catchy and addicting.

1. “I’m The One” by DJ Khaled featuring Quavo, Chance the Rapper, Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne

DJ Khaled has produced a lot of songs with many artists in the past. But this song is catchy with multiple messages, great vocals and verses. It’s a pretty good banger and recommended for a good time.
