The El Paso Times reported that Arizona football agreed to a home and home series with UTEP in 2017 and 2018. The paper reported the schedule update on Jan. 30, and thus far, there have been no times or locations selected for the series. The Wildcats and Miners were Border Conference rivals from 1931 to 1960. The UA owns a 38-11-2 record against UTEP and the Wildcats won the last meeting 42-7 in 2003.
UA names new safeties coach, completes 2013 staff
Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez annouced the promotion of Matt Caponi, a graduate assistant during the 2012 season, to safeties coach.
Former UA safeties coach Tony Gibson left the program for West Virginia in January. Caponi joined the UA staff after spending a year as a graduate assitant at Pittsburgh for three seasons, as well as the defensive coordinator for Washington and Jefferson College from 2008-2010.Caponi attended Mount Union College, and served as a team captain and all-conference safety.
Caponi’s hiring completes the 2013 coaching staff. The UA will begin spring football on March 2.
