On Feb. 19, the Friends of Pima Animal Care Center are holding their second annual Tucson Subaru Pets of Pima Parade down the historic Fourth Avenue with the parade at 10 a.m. followed by the 4 Legs on 4th Festival at 11:30 a.m. to raise money for the animals of PACC. 

Pets and owners across Tucson get together by registering, donating or raising $50 to walk in the parade. Roman Urias, development and marketing specialist for Friends of PACC, elaborated on how the funds benefit PACC.

“This event and the funds raised by it allow Pima Animal Care Center to continue its lifesaving work for the pets in Pima County, not just Tucson,” Urias said.

PACC doesn’t only work to find forever homes for pets, but they also assist with any insecurities from food, housing or veterinarian bills. Medical help can include free vaccinations, microchipping and wellness checks for pets across the county.

Not only is this a way to raise funds for PACC, but it’s a reminder of the bond that animals and humans share.

“The objective of this year’s Tucson Subaru Pets of Pima Parade is not far from last year’s, which is to celebrate the human-animal connection and love that pets bring,” Urias said.

Natalie Kramer is a volunteer going on her second year of helping with the parade. She served as the volunteer coordinator for the inaugural event.

“Once seeing the concept come to life, I knew I wanted to return to serve in the same role for the 2023 parade, Kramer said.

One of her favorite features of being a volunteer is the intimate view she gets when a community unites for a selfless cause. 

“As a volunteer, I got a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the magic that happens when a community comes together for the greater good,” Kramer said.

As Urias said, “This year’s Tucson Subaru Pets of Pima Parade will be paw-some.”
