The UA’s branch of the Up ‘Til Dawn student philanthropy group will hold a letter-writing campaign tomorrow to raise money for a prominent children’s research hospital.
About 200 students will gather tomorrow from 6:30 p.m. to midnight to participate in the event. Teams of six students will compete against one another to see who can write the most letters and raise the most money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
The hospital hosts researchers from across the world who look into ways to address cancer and other major diseases. It gives care to children with no cost to their families and does not require that patients are insured.
Letters will be sent out to potential patrons to ask for contributions to the hospital, which depends on donations to stay running.
“”This event took place four years ago and now we’re bringing it back and trying to revamp it,”” said Lyndsay Vella, executive director of the UA’s branch of Up ‘Til Dawn. “”We hope this will help a lot in raising money and awareness for St. Jude.””
The event, open to all students and their friends and families, will be followed by food, games and a raffle for prize giveaways.
