For the second season in a row, the Arizona volleyball team won’t make it to the postseason.
The Wildcats (13-16, 3-14 Pacific 10 Conference) lost to No. 6 California and No. 4 Stanford on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Arizona hit .187 and registered 10 blocks and five service aces in Maples Center against the Cardinal. Stanford (26-2, 15-2) hit .287 with as many blocks and aces in a 30-23, 28-30, 30-20, 30-28 win.
Opposite hitter Randy Goodenough led the Wildcats’ attack with 19 kills, while outside hitter Tiffany Owens was close behind with 18.
Stanford’s Foluke Akinradewo led all attackers with season-high 21 kills on season-best .769 hitting. Freshman Alix Klineman chipped in with 14.
The Wildcats were swept by the Golden Bears (22-6, 12-5) on Friday by scores of 30-25, 38-36 and 30-22.
Arizona hit .085 to Cal’s .207.
Arizona took a 25-28 lead in game two and was at match point with a 29-26 lead. Cal scored three straight to tie the game before the teams traded points, leading to a 36-35 Wildcat lead. A Goodenough error and a service ace sealed the win for the Bears.
Cal cruised to victory in game three thanks to -.029 hitting by the Wildcats.
