2006 pac-10 championships
The No. 26 Arizona men’s golf team is in fourth place at the 2006 Pacific 10 Conference Championships after each team played one round and nearly finished its second round of competition yesterday.
After almost 36 holes, No. 5 UCLA is in the lead with a first-round score of 349, sitting pretty at the top at 13-under-par, with holes yet to finish in round two. No. 29 Washington is in second place with a first-round score of 352; the Huskies are at 6-under-par after finishing one round of play. No. 19 Southern California is in third place.
Arizona comes in at fourth place after a first-round score of 360, shooting 8-over-par in the first round of play.
The two top-finishing Wildcats so far for the tournament are freshman Ben Fox and junior Henry Liaw, who are both tied for eighth place individually at even par. Juniors Josh Esler and Brian Prouty are both tied for 14th place at 2-over-par.
Sophomore Travis Esway is tied for 26th place, carding a respectable 4-over-par. Junior Nathan Tyler is in 56th place and is nearly twice as far over par as the rest of the team combined, at 13-over-par. Tyler’s collapse began in the second round, after he made it into the clubhouse at 3-over-par for his first 18 holes.
Only the top five scores count toward the total team score.
The tournament continues today with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Canyons at Big Horn Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
