The No. 5 men and unranked women’s track and field team got off to a great start yesterday at the Mt. San Antonio College meet in Walnut, Calif. as the Wildcats competed in the first day’s combined events.
Freshman Shevel Quinley led the Wildcats in the heptathlon competition by scoring 3,105 points and recording the team’s first personal record of the meet.
Quinley was the only person to compete on day one of the events. She is placed ninth overall so far.
Quinley really helped the team, said head track and field coach Fred Harvey.
“”She did a great job,”” Harvey said.
Tomorrow Quinley will compete in the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
Meanwhile, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its indoor track and field academic all-conference selections on Tuesday.
Four women and six men from the Wildcats were selected to the team.
On the women’s side, sophomores distance runner Angelina Cabrera, sprinter Ashley Gadson, distance runner Danelle Onate and distance junior Ashley Ippolito were named.
For the men, sophomore distance runner Christopher Ogle, senior hurdler Jeff Hunter, junior Dan Cook, junior sprinter Troy Harris, junior multi-events star Jacob Arnold and sophomore distance runner Kenny Frank were selected.
