Arizona men’s basketball head coach Sean Miller will not coach in tonight’s game at Oregon as first reported by Greg Hansen of the Arizona Daily Star.
Miller, who was caught on an FBI wiretap arranging a payment of $100,000 to land freshman Deandre Ayton in an ESPN report, told the team this afternoon that he will not coach in the game.
However, Ayton will play in the game against the Ducks and associate head coach Lorenzo Romar will serve as the head coach in Miller’s absence.
Both Arizona Athletics and Sean Miller released statements approximately an hour after news broke that Miller would not be coaching in the game. Miller says he is “confident” he will be “vindicated”. Full statements can be read in the tweet below.
According to the ESPN report from Feb. 23, the wiretaps included conversations between Miller and Christian Dawkins, a runner working for ASM Sports agent Andy Miller, arranging payments to ensure Ayton would come to Arizona.
Arizona will face Oregon in Eugene tonight at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN.
