Arizona women’s basketball head coach Niya Butts will host the program’s first Movie Night on Saturday at Tower Theaters.
Butts, along with her fellow coaching staff, will host a free screening of “The Mighty Macs,” a movie based on the true story of the 1971-72 Immaculata College women’s basketball team.
The movie, which won’t be released in theaters until Oct. 21, is about the team’s journey to the top. Butts’ team can identify with the movie, she said.
The event’s primary focus is to get people involved with the program.
“We hope to get the community involved and show how much our game can really change lives,” Butts said. “I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t be inspired by it.”
The movie starts at 7 p.m., but viewers can arrive at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet with Butts and her coaching staff.
