Add insult to injury for UA forward Marcus Williams.
The sophomore, who is battling two sprained wrists, was held out of last night’s contest against ASU for a “”violation of a team rule,”” UA head coach Lute Olson said.
Olson would not elaborate on which rule Williams broke, but the sophomore sat on the bench in street clothes and was not available for comment.
Williams is Arizona’s leading scorer at 18.1 points per game and is second in rebounding at 7.6. Jordan Hill started in Williams place and scored 12 points.
A source close to the team said Williams broke the rule in Los Angeles, where the Wildcats played USC and UCLA last weekend.
Williams will play on Saturday against No. 4 North Carolina, Olson said.
Junior forward Bret Brielmaier will also be able to play on Saturday after missing the last seven games with a right knee injury.
Monday, Olson called Brielmaier a “”long shot”” to play this weekend but trainer Justin Kokoskie told Olson Brielmaier would be ready.
Brielmaier, who had arthroscopic surgery Jan. 8, will be “”fully involved”” in practice tomorrow, Olson said.
Mohamed Tangara was taken to University Medical Center after halftime to be evaluated. Tangara was elbowed in the head at the end of the first half.
