The Arizona women’s basketball team has its final two home games of the season this week against Washington State on Thursday and Washington on Saturday. With just four more games remaining in the regular season, we take a look back at the interesting statistics the Wildcats have recorded this season.
5: NCAA ranking of sophomore Ify Ibekwe’s rebounds per game. She averages 11.5 for the Wildcats, and leads the Pacific 10 Conference in rebounding by almost two boards per game.
7: Number of games Arizona lost in its skid against Pac-10 teams. The losing streak spanned three weeks of play, including a heart-breaking loss to USC in overtime and back-to-back losses to UCLA and ASU in which the Wildcats scored a season-low of 38 points in each game.
20-20: Against Boise State on Dec. 29, Ibekwe recorded the first 20-20 performance in Arizona women’s basketball history. She scored 26 points and had 20 rebounds in the 53-48 victory over the Broncos. At that point, Ibekwe was just the third player to record a 20-20 game in the NCAA during the 2008-09 season.
22: Arizona’s season-low shooting percentage from the field. The poor shooting came in the Wildcats’ second game against UCLA. They scored one more point in this loss than they did in their first loss against the Bruins in McKale Center.
27: Points scored by Ibekwe in Arizona’s victory over USC. This has been her highest point total of the year so far. No other Arizona player has recorded a higher point total this year.
93: Points Arizona scored in its first win of the season. Against Loyola Marymount, Arizona forced the game into triple overtime and eventually won in the Women’s Basketball Bank of Hawaii Invitational Tournament. Junior guard Ashley Frazier logged 53 minutes in the contest and Amina Njonkou recorded her first double-double of the year.
4,136: Total attendance – a season-high mark – at the Wildcats’ game against ASU on Feb. 21. Arizona led the game at halftime, but lost the contest 60-53.
