The Arizona hockey team won their second game of the season against rival ASU Saturday, Sept. 30 beating the Sun Devils, 8-4, in a rival game.
In the first period ASU scored the first goal of the game, but Wildcat captain Orion Olsen quickly responded to tie the game up. A fight broke out on the ice and both an Arizona and ASU player got ejected from the game.
Wildcat Trey Decker scored with 1:02 left in the first period, but the Sun Devils slipped one by the UA goalie with only a 1:02 left on the clock. The shots on net at the end of the first period were 17-10 in favor of ASU. It was a tie game, 2-2, going into the second.
Less than two minutes into the second period, Wildcat Max Meyer scored his first goal during the game. ASU responded quickly with a goalkeeping the score tied, 3-3. The ‘Cats found themselves in penalty trouble and had a player in the box for about six minutes.
Wildcat Josh Larson scored his first goal of the season with 5:43 left in the second period. The crowd’s energy picked up after the goal, Decker responded with his second goal of the game. At the end of the second period, Arizona lead 5-3.
The third period started off slow, but Tyler Griffith managed to find the back of the net leaving the Sun Devils to a three-point deficit. Arizona State tried to make up the lost goals, but in the final four minutes, Olsen scored his second goal of the game followed by a goal by Ethan Stahlhuth to take the win, 8-4.
