Arizona volleyball was unable to bounce back after a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Oregon St., and fell to the No. 15 Oregon Ducks in Eugene on Friday night in a tightly contested match, 3-2.
Set one went to the Ducks as they jumped out to an early lead. The Wildcats made it close at the tail end, but were unable to come away with the set win and handed it to the Ducks, 25-22.
Arizona edged out Oregon in set two, and won 25-23. The set that never saw any lead from either team grow to over three points.
The ‘Cats came out of the halftime stoppage looking to build off of their momentum and increase their lead, which they were able to do. They won set three, 25-18, and put themselves up 2-1 in the match.
Set four was an was not in favor of Arizona, as the Ducks won soundly, 25-9. Oregon was then able to take the match-clinching set five, 15-10 and winning the match, 3-2.
Junior outside hitter Kendra Dahlke and freshman outside hitter Paige Whipple led the way for the Wildcats, having 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Julia Patterson tallied 47 assist on the night, and senior libero/defensive specialist Kimberly Gutierrez had 15 digs.
Oregon had four players with double digit kills, led by senior right side hitter Taylor Agost who had 14, along with 15 digs.
The loss increases the Wildcats losing streak to four. They’ll look to get back to winning form as they return to McKale Center Friday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. to take on the California Golden Bears.
