Player of the series: Jason Stoffel
With closer Daniel Schlereth on the shelf with an abdominal strain, the freshman righty stepped up in a big way against the Golden Bears, holding Cal scoreless over three innings. In Thursday’s 1-0 win, he entered in the 10th and didn’t allow a hit over two innings. After picking up the win in that game, he came back Saturday to pitch a scoreless ninth and pick up his second save of the season.
Question of the weekend: Why did the splotchy infield grass at Sancet look like a driving range?
Two weeks ago, the grounds crew fertilized the infield, but rain forced them to tarp it just hours later. Ouch. The grass was burned, resulting in the holes, and then painted green for this weekend’s series. It’ll be fixed by Arizona’s next home series, May 4-6, against Liberty.
