The University of Arizona’s Office of Sustainability will be hosting the first Arizona Tri-University Student Sustainability Summit on Feb. 23 from 1-5 p.m in the Santa Rita Room at the UA Student Union Memorial Center.
Students from Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University will meet with UA students to discuss sustainability and share ideas.
Any UA students, staff or faculty that would like to attend should RSVP on the UA Sustainability website as space is limited. “We’re excited to be inclusive of all who would like to attend, but some activities may be limited for those who sign up late,” said Ben Champion, director at the Office of Sustainability.
Scheduled activities include each university sharing sustainability updates, table top discussions in groups on a range of sustainability topics, and a regroup and report on opportunities for collaboration and staying connected. All events can be found on the Summit’s official poster.
“[The goal] is for students to build relationships and get connected,” Champion said. “I’d like to see students get a better sense of what’s going on at other universities, and find opportunities for collaboration.”
Tri-University events between the Arizona universities are not rare, but sustainability groups have not held many events. “As far as I know, there hasn’t been much discussion as far as sustainability between students [of different universities,]” Champion said.
