The No. 19 Arizona gymnastics team lost against No. 17 Oregon State University by 0.225 points in McKale Center on Sunday, Feb 25. Arizona earned 196.850, while Oregon State scored 197.075 overall. The GymCats earned a season-high on beam with a score of 49.425. Alysen Fears, Abigayle Martin and Elena Deets all earned career-highs during their rotations. Freshman Trizah Wise made her first appearance on the team and scored the highest on the bars rotation.
History:
This was the first meeting between the two teams since Feb. 7, 2015. Arizona lost with a score of 195.100, while the Beavers posted 196.250. Following their most recent loss, the GymCats currently have a six-game losing streak, posting an overall record of 3-10 against Oregon State.
Vault:
For its first rotation on vault, the GymCats scored 48.875 and Oregon State posted 49.200. Fears led the team with a career-high score of 9.850. Emma Storm followed with a season-high 9.825. Wise made her first appearance on vault with a score of 9.750. Ainsley Greever also scored a 9.750. Martin posted a 9.700. Lastly, Caroline Herry earned a 9.675. The Beavers were led by Sophia Esposito, who scored the highest in the rotation with a 9.900.
Uneven Bars:
In the second rotation on bars, The Wildcats posted a 49.250 while Oregon State scored a 49.525. Wise and Fears both scored 9.875. Martin scored a 9.850, while Emily Mueller and Deets both posted a 9.825. Lastly, Sophie Derr scored an 8.975. Jade Carey from Oregon State scored the highest in the bars event, scoring 9.975.
Beam:
Arizona scored 49.425 for their third rotation on beam. Oregon State Earned a 49.225. Martin earned a career-high on the rotation with a score of 9.900. Deets tied her career-high with a score of 9.925. Strom and Herry both earned a 9.875. Mueller posted a 9.850, while Fears finished the rotation with a 9.775. Carey from Oregon State scored the highest in the beam event with a score of 9.975
Floor:
In the last rotation, The GymCats earned 49.300, while Oregon State scored 49.125 on the floor. Herry posted a team-high 9.900. Fears and Deets both scored a 9.875. Martin and Mueller both scored a 9.825. Strom cleaned up the rotation with a score of 9.775. Carey from Oregon State scored the highest in the floor event, scoring 9.925.
