No. 21 Arizona gymnastics finishes its regular season, set to compete at the Pac-12 Championships

The No. 21 Arizona gymnastics team wrapped up its last two matches of the regular season. On Wednesday, March 13, the GymCats had their final home matchup against Southern Connecticut State University, winning with a score of 196.900. On Sunday, March 17, Arizona placed third in the quad meet in Illinois against the University of Missouri, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Southeast Missouri State University.

Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m.

Arizona vs. Southern Connecticut:

Vault:

The Wildcats started their matchup on vault, scoring a 49.225, while Southern Connecticut State fell short with a 48.550. Alysen Fears started strong with a 9.900, followed by Jessica Castles with a 9.875. Malia Hargrove posted a 9.850 and Abigayle Martin scored a 9.825.

Bars:

In the second rotation on bars, Arizona scored a 49.150, while the Owls acquired a 48.125. Fears led the rotation with 9.900. Elena Deets and Sophie Derr posted a 9.875, and Emily Mueller finished the rotation with a score of 9.850.

Beam:

In the beam event, the Wildcats posted a 49.300, while the Owls scored 47.600. Deets scored the highest on the beam rotation with a 9.925. Mueller and Martin both scored 9.875 and Fears scored a 9.850.

Floor:

Floor was the last rotation, in which Arizona scored a 49.225, beating Southern Connecticut by 0.775 points. Caroline Herry carried the rotation with a 9.875. Mueller and Emma Strom scored 9.850, while Fears and Deets both scored 9.825. Fears earned a career-high all-around score of 39.475.

Sunday, March 17 at noon

Quad meet: Arizona vs. Missouri:

The Wildcats finished third in the quad event with a score of 196.875. Missouri took first place with 197.600. Illinois came in second with 197.275 and Southeast Missouri State posted a score of 192.700.

Floor:

Starting the rotation on the floor, Arizona posted a 49.250. Strom and Mueller both scored 9.875. Fears and Deets followed up with 9.850, while Martin acquired a 9.800. Hargrove had a 0.1 point deduction, resulting in a score of 9.675.

Vault:

In their second rotation on vault, the Wildcats achieved a season-high score of 49.325. Hargrove scored the highest on her team with a 9.900. Strom, Martin and Fears all scored 9.875.

Bars:

In the third rotation on bars, the GymCats acquired a total score of 48.975. Fears led the rotation with a 9.850. Derr posted a 9.825, and Mueller and Hargrove both scored 9.800.

Beam:

Arizona concluded the quad meet with a score of 49.325 in its final rotation on beam. Fears finished strong with a score of 9.900, while GymCats Herry, Mueller and Deets all posted 9.875 to finish the night.

Next match:

On Saturday, March 23, the GymCats will head to the Pac-12 Championships in West Valley City, Utah.
