The University of Arizona soccer team beat Baylor University 1-0 at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field in Waco, Texas on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. The Wildcats are now 6-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The Wildcats were ready to come back after their first conference loss last week to the University of Utah.
All captains in this match on both sides contributed early on in the game. This helped shake up Baylor as offside calls were called early. Baylor was pressing on the Wildcats’ defense trying to get a goal on the board but Arizona continued to fight back, stopping the Baylor offense at every turn.
Arizona continued to show why they are meant to play in the Big 12 as they controlled the match. The Wildcats already had seven shots 30 minutes into the game while Baylor only had two.
Going into half, the score was still 0-0. Arizona had four shots on goal and Baylor had none.
Coming out the second half, Baylor took no time taking the ball down the field and tried to get a goal, but goalie Olivia Ramey did not let that happen. The Wildcats continued to stay dominant on both sides of the field.
Gianna Christiansen laid in the first and only goal of the game for Arizona in the 59th minute, achieving 4 goals so far this season.
Arizona won the match 1-0 in regulation time.
Arizona will be traveling to Fort Worth to play Texas Christian University on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
