UO Live On Campus, an event hosted by Urban Outfitters, made its way to Tucson for its fourth college event on Sept. 18 with hosts Enya Umanzor and Drew Phillips, also known as Enya and Drew, and music artist Tinashe.
For over a decade, UO Live was strictly on YouTube as a series for the well-known brand to spotlight upcoming artists, but it was not until recently that they decided to take this to college campuses around the country.
According to a news release, Urban Outfitters launched UO Live On Campus to create a “dynamic series of in-store experiences featuring Gen Z-favorite artists, creators, and can’t-miss moments designed to foster community and connection for an exciting school year ahead.”
UO Live has featured artists such as Quavo, Towa Bird and The Marias, with host Chris Klemens and special guests DJ Mandy and VTSS in the past.
The Tucson show was announced one day before the event, which made UO staff skeptical about whether or not people would show up; however, one thing about the audience was that they were die-hard Tinashe fans.
Umanzor and Phillips, also known as Emergency Intercom, were the hosts for the Tucson show. The duo has been responsible for a lot of the internet’s humor and aesthetic, as their effortless and quirky personalities can make people feel understood in many ways.
This being said, there were just as many people there to see Tinashe as there were people wanting to get a glimpse of Umanzor and Phillips.
The two hosts said fans began arriving around 7 a.m. to make a line at the Urban Outfitters along University Blvd. The show was set to start at 7 p.m. and fans of both the hosts and artist were determined to get into the venue.
There was limited capacity for the show and wristbands sold out around 4:30 p.m. Regardless, fans waited in hopes of possibly getting in. The line nearly wrapped around Panera Bread.
Entering the venue, the stage was lit in purple and red hues which encapsulated the trendy and authentic vibe Urban Outfitters is known for. The DJ in attendance got the crowd in the right mindset for Tinashe and just like that, the show began.
Currently known for her hit “Nasty,” Tinashe dominated the TikTok algorithm. Various attendees thought her stage presence was incredibly fun and her confidence was electrifying, yet her interaction with the crowd was genuine and wholesome.
UA sophomore Lexie Shaw attended the event and said she was stunned by the artist and her captivating performance.
“I went in not quite sure how they were gonna turn the Urban Outfitters into a concert venue,” Shaw said. “But I was definitely surprised and impressed by how much they transformed the store into this very vibey venue. The music of Tinashe matched every aspect of the environment and the crowd was the best part; they were so fun and wild.”
While this was UO’s last planned performance for Tucson for now, attendees hope it will make a return. Visit urbanoutfitters.com/uo-live for more information.
