The Arizona women’s hockey team came back home defeated after losing to the University of Utah 5-3 in the AZ Ice Peoria on Sunday, Oct. 20.
The Wildcats started off strong with Lilly Howell, a freshman forward, finding the back of the net and putting the Wildcats up by 1-0.
Utah retaliated and scored following Arizona’s goal. Both teams ended up putting away 1 goal in the first period, ending the period tied 2-2. Brynn O’Neill, a freshman forward, scored the second goal for the Wildcats before the end of the period.
Entering the second period, Utah scored 6 minutes in, putting them up 3-2. However, Arizona came back and scored with a shot from Savannah Allen, a freshman defenseman, only 2 minutes after Utah’s goal and tied the game back up.
The teams remained tied throughout the second period until the 15th minute, when Utah scored again as the second period ended, making the score 4-3.
The Utes extended their lead in the third period, scoring in the 19th minute and winning 5-3.
Although the Wildcats ended the game defeated, they put 40 shots on goal with only three of them going in.
UA goalie Olivia Sorlie was a big factor in the game, saving 39 shots on goal from Utah.
