The University of Arizona women’s soccer team took on ASU on Friday, Oct. 25 at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Wildcats came out with a 1-0 win in their last game of the regular season, marking their record at 11-5-2 and 6-4-1 in the Big 12.
The Wildcats began the match with an aggressive start as Arizona showed off on both sides of the field. Nicole Dallin laid in a goal 10 minutes into the first half, putting the first points on the board for the Wildcats. Arizona maintained possession of the ball throughout the first half, continuing to maintain great defense. Multiple fouls were called on both the Wildcats and ASU during the period.
The Wildcats maintained the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Starting the second half, it was a battle. Despite Arizona leading, both teams matched shots throughout the game. The Wildcats maintained control of the ball, trying to shut out the Sun Devils offense. The offense from both teams went back-and-forth during the rest of the second half.
Arizona dominated the game in shots on goal 4-3 and outshot ASU 13-12 overall. Goalkeeper Olivia Ramey finished the game with four saves.
The Wildcats were able to keep the Sun Devils from scoring and tying the match. Arizona would go on to win the last game of the regular season 1-0.
Looking Ahead
After a hard-fought season, the Wildcats will be traveling to Kansas City, Mo., to play against Baylor University in the first round of the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
