After a thrilling weekend with the Candrea Classic, the University of Arizona softball team is set to host its next batch of teams for the Bear Down Fiesta.
The three teams visiting the desert include the University of South Alabama, California State University Fullerton and Ohio University.
This week, the Wildcats walk into the competition ranked 15th in the country and with Big 12 Player of the Week Kaiah Altmeyer.
Thursday’s competition will be a doubleheader against South Alabama, with the Wildcats playing at both 5 and 7 p.m. The teams have only faced off once before, with the game ending in a 1-1 tie stretching all the way to the 11th inning.
On Friday, Feb. 14, the Wildcats and Cal State Fullerton face off in their first of two matchups. The Titans have one of the longest histories with Arizona, with the series starting back in 1984. While the record shows Arizona up 24-12 on the series, their most recent matchup saw Fullerton snatch the win.
In honor of Friday’s game coinciding with Valentine’s Day, the team will have a Galentine’s Day promotion. This will include a wine glass giveaway at the entrance to Mike Candrea Field at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium.
Saturday, Feb. 15 will see the first ever match-up between Ohio University and Arizona. The teams will play each other at 3 p.m.
Arizona will cap off its weekend and the fiesta with a rematch against Cal State Fullerton. The game is set to start on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 11:30 a.m.
