The University of Arizona gymnastics team secured a strong second-place finish in the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday, Feb. 21 with a score of 196.125. The University of Arkansas claimed the top spot, scoring a 196.400, while Oregon State University came in third with a 196.025 and Southeast Missouri State University came in fourth scoring a 191.650.
Uneven bars
Arizona completed the bars with a 48.975. Abigayle Martin earned a 9.800 while Aubrey Krohnfeldt came behind with a 9.775. Elena Deets and Alysen Fears recorded a strong pair of 9.825s to conclude the first rotation.
Balance beam
The GymCats scored a 49.150 in the second rotation of the night. Fears began the rotation with a graceful routine that scored a 9.850. Emily Mueller and Deets matched each other’s energy with back-to-back 9.875s. Martin, rounding out the rotation, contributed a score of 9.825.
Floor exercise
The GymCats put up a 48.950 on floor. Senior Elizabeth LaRusso started strong, bringing the heat with a score of 9.800 in the rotation. Three Wildcats, Fears, Martin and Emma Strom, earned 9.825s.
Vault
Arizona ended the night scoring a 49.050, putting them in place to take second just behind Arkansas. Strom scored a 9.850, the highest score for Arizona on vault. Martin recorded a 9.825. Mueller and Fears put up a score of 9.80s apiece while Sophie Derr added a 9.775 to cap off the rotation.
