Despite windy and dusty conditions, thousands of protesters took to the streets across the Tucson area for the third “No Kings Day.” There were 12 total locations. The protests were mainly due to anti-war sentiments stemming from the U.S.-Iran conflict.
A new location for “No Kings” was established in Tucson Estates, a suburb on the west side of Tucson. Around 250 to 300 residents showed up to the new location.
Event coordinator Janis Warne spoke about the perception that the suburb is primarily composed of conservative or “pro-Trump” residents.
“I would say they’re probably right, but we know that there’s many, many others that are not and we just want to make our presence be seen and heard, because it’s very important for our country,” Warne said.
Many residents who were not at the protest passed by honking their horns, waving and showing peace signs.
“When they see a demonstration like this, they go: ‘I feel the same way as they do and I appreciate what they’re doing,’” Warne said. “And that’s why they honk and now they know that we got people out here, and we’re hopefully just gonna continue to grow.”
