Seniors Kristie Fox and Caitlin Lowe were among 25 finalists named for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award yesterday.
Fox, a shortstop, is hitting .327 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs this season. The center fielder Lowe has scored 37 runs and stolen 30 bases while hitting .445 this year. Lowe was a finalist for the award in 2005.
The list will be trimmed to 10 on May 9, and then to three two weeks later.
No Wildcat has ever won the award, though former pitcher Alicia Hollowell was twice a finalist (2006, 2004), joining Lowe and former shortstop Lovie Jung (2003).
