Trier a game-time decision Saturday
Allonzo Trier would no doubt love to make his return to the court this Saturday, when he and the Wildcats play Washington in Trier’s hometown of Seattle.
Whether Trier does suit up will depend on how he feels over the next few days.
After Arizona’s win over Washington State Wednesday night, head coach Sean Miller said that Trier’s status will be a game-time decision.
“He looks great, he looks fresh, he’s shooting the ball well,” Miller said.
Trier was seen warming up pregame at Washington State with no tape or bandage on his broken hand. However, Miller said last week that when Trier does return, he will wear a pad to limit the risk of further injury.
Allen dealing with sickness
If this season was like a typical year for the Arizona men’s basketball program, Kadeem Allen would most likely not have played Wednesday night.
The point guard has been dealing with an illness for the past couple days, Miller said, and he could only give so much effort against Washington State.
Allen, who didn’t start for the first time all season, played just seven minutes on Wednesday yet managed to pick up five fouls in that time.
“Different kids handle it differently,” Miller said of Allen’s night. “I think Kadeem did the best he could.”
Because Arizona is already without Trier and Elliott Pitts, Miller didn’t have much choice but to put Allen out there.
Since Arizona has two full days off Allen will have a little more time than usual to recover.
Will he be healthy Saturday?
We’ll see.
Washington escapes ASU
When Arizona crushed Washington 99-67 in Tucson three weeks ago, the Huskies didn’t have the look of a team with Pac-12 title aspiration.
Yet midway through the conference season, Washington finds itself just a half-game behind first place Oregon after UW defeated ASU in overtime Wednesday night.
Huskies leading scorer Andrew Andrews went a poor 2-13 from the field against the Sun Devils, while freshman Dejounte Murray led the team with 34 points.
