The UA LGBTQ Resource Center is holding a Coming Out Resource Week Fair on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on campus. The fair will be held on the UA Mall in front of Old Main.
Pride Alliance, a student-run organization, has been running the resource fair for 20 years. The fair coincides with National Coming Out Day. Part of the fair is honoring the process and experience of coming out as an LGBTQ person.
Manuel Rodriguez, the coordinator for the LGBTQ Resource Center, talked about the impact and significance of the event.
“This event is important for LGBTQ people to get access to resources, learn more about our center, groups on and off campus, and as a way to connect and build relationships with one another,” Rodriguez said.
Various LGBTQ organizations, both on and off campus, and various departments will be on the mall Thursday. They will provide information about how to get involved with LGBTQ events on campus and around Tucson.

The fair will also provide information on where to go for HIV and STI tests.
The Resource Center offers referrals to LGBTQ support groups on campus and connects students with Counseling and Psychiatry Services on and off campus.
They also assist students with navigating advocating for more inclusive departments and colleges on campus and providing the LGBTQ educational training called Safe Zone for the entire campus.
Most of the resources regularly offered at the Resource Center will be available at the fair.
Rodriguez said that “students should go [to the event], both LGBTQ students and allies who would like to learn more about the LGBTQ community.”
