After defeating the University of Oregon on Wednesday in their first matchup of the Pac-12 tournament in Scottsdale, the Arizona baseball team moved on to face Stanford University on Thursday.
Senior Garrett Irvin got the start for Arizona on the mound and Stanford broke the ice with back-to-back solo home runs in the second inning. They would add another homer in the third inning to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead.
Arizona responded in the bottom of the inning by loading the bases with singles from Nik McClaughry and Tanner O’Tremba, followed by a walk from Chase Davis. Tony Bullard then stepped to the plate with one out and singled through the left side to score 2 runs. Noah Turley drove in Davis on an RBI single to right-center to tie the game 3-3 later in the inning.
Stanford would score five unanswered runs from this point as Irvin would load the bases in the fourth inning and allow 2 runs to score. Irvin’s night would come to a close in the fifth after he let up his fourth homer of the night to the Cardinal as they took a 7-3 lead.

O’Tremba hit a solo homer to cut it to 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth, but Stanford would pour on five more runs in the sixth inning. The first run of the inning scored on a wild pitch by Chandler Murphy. George Arias Jr. then took over the mound for Arizona with runners on second and third and let up an RBI single followed by a 3-run home run to Stanford’s Drew Bowser to make it a 13-4 ballgame.
Arizona would attempt to chip away at the lead with 2 runs scored in the seventh and eighth innings each, but they would eventually fall to Stanford by a score of 15-8.
The Wildcats will now face rival ASU in an elimination game on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m MST.
