U.S. Marshals transported a man to Pima County Jail on Monday for possession and display of multiple fictitious registrations, driving on a suspended license, expired registration and for not having auto insurance.
Police saw a white Mercury missing its license plate and displaying a temporary-registration tag in the rear window with an expiration date of Sept. 16, 2007. Police ran the numbers through a computer and discovered that the real expiration date was Nov. 16, 2006.
The driver told the officer that he had a suspended driver’s license, which the computer check confirmed. He also had five warrants out for his arrest. The driver gave consent for police to search the vehicle and the officer found a blue folder with 17 fictitious temporary-registration tags. The driver claimed the car belonged to his brother and that he knew nothing about the tag.
An employee of Highland Market, 525 N. Highland Ave., found a baggie containing a green, leafy substance under the cash register Monday.
The employee told police that when he found the baggie, it was not in anyone’s possession and he did not see anyone drop it. The officer asked the cashier and two patrons if they saw who dropped it, but none of them had. All claimed that the baggie was not theirs.
A UA student was taken to University Medical Center on Monday for alcohol intoxication.
Police were on patrol in the south parking lot of Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., when an officer noticed the student staggering at the west entrance of the lot. The officer approached her, and as he made contact, she fell to the ground. After helping her sit back up, the officer asked for identification. She began to vomit, and the officer could detect the strong odor of alcohol. Her eyes were red and watery and her speech slurred and slow.
He asked again for identification. The student told him, “”I’m OK, officer. I just want to go home,”” according to reports.
Through her military dependant ID, the officer identified her as a 17-year-old. Paramedics arrived and transported her to UMC for treatment.
Police responded to a report concerning a marijuana odor outside a student’s room at Cochise Residence Hall, 1018 E. South Campus Drive at 1:23 a.m. Saturday.
An officer and the resident assistant on duty knocked on the student’s door and asked if they could enter. The student allowed them. The officer noticed three other men in the room as well as the strong scent of marijuana.
The officer told them that he could smell the odor of marijuana. The student said, “”I don’t smell anything,”” according to reports. When the officer asked him where the marijuana was located, the student admitted he had some and produced a clear plastic container with 2.9 grams of marijuana from his dresser drawer.
The student told the officer that he had bought the drug from a stranger that night at the Student Union Memorial Center, 1303 E. University Blvd., and that he had smoked some marijuana in his room because he was uncomfortable in the small space and needed “”some weed to help me,”” according to reports.
After obtaining the student’s consent, the officer searched the room. No more marijuana was found, but the officer did find a 1.75-liter bottle of Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum that was two-thirds full and a 0.5-liter water bottle that was half full.
The officer cited and released two of the occupants – the student for possession of marijuana, and another person for being a minor in possession of spirituous liquor.
