Meet Abby (Katherine Heigl), a successful producer for the local news station. This semi-awkward control freak, stuck in the work world, just can’t find her picturesque man. She’s rather hopeless when it comes to dating; she just can’t find anyone who fits all of her qualifications.

Then there’s Mike (Gerard Butler), a blunt sexist and host of the local public access show “”The Ugly Truth.”” Being the lust, seduction, and manipulation expert, he’s convinced that relationships are basically about one thing and has no problem telling everyone else.

Ironically, Abby and Mike are forced to work together at the station, constantly trying to one-up the other to prove that their theories on love and relationships in general are wrong. Abby finally decides to try Mike’s way, having him coach her through the process. She has to “”learn to be both the librarian and the stripper.”” But will she get what she wants? Or will she discover that everything has an ugly truth?

Though the previews give you the basic idea of the movie, they don’t give away too much of the story. The movie does have its moments of predictability, but it also has its share of curveballs. For example, when Abby is checking out her dashing neighbor – who just happens to be a doctor – from the comfort of her own tree, you have no idea that she is going to fall provocatively while he comes to the rescue with his own steamy twist.

The movie feeds the girly aspect of romantic comedies while throwing in some sexual humor guaranteed to make anyone roar with laughter, such as a “”lady garden”” present gone very wrong at a business meeting.

Despite the fact that Butler is without his accent, the audience will still swoon and holler (at least the ladies anyway). Heigl is adorably hilarious; her clumsiness tends to get the best of her.

The chemistry-clad cast really feeds off of each other. Heigl and Butler share a strong love/hate chemistry through their bickering and determination that is unmatched by others. This movie is a must-see for those who enjoy raunchy humor with a story behind it.
