ANAHEIM, Calif. — Nick Johnson scored 14 of the Wildcats’ final 15 points to help Arizona beat San Diego State 70-64 and advance to the Elite Eight.
Johnson missed his first 10 shots before finally making a fast break lay-up with 2:44 left in the game. He then would go on to help secure the win, which was in doubt at halftime.
The Wildcats trailed by four at halftime due to poor rebounding, shooting and energy.
However, that changed in the second half.
Aaron Gordon energized Arizona’s second half comeback with an alley-oop off of a steal in the first six minutes of the half to push the momentum back on the Wildcats’ side.
The two schools continued to trade trade blows.
But Arizona’s much improved second half offensive production helped them pull ahead. It took its first second half lead with 7:09 left in the game.
Arizona will play Wisconsin on Saturday in the Elite Eight.
