Arizona sophomore men’s tennis player Ravid Hazi reached the singles play finals at the Aggie Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., last weekend. The Arizona Daily Wildcat caught up with Hazi to discuss team camaraderie, Maria Sharapova and his ideal wife.
Wildcat: What do you look forward to the most during the fall tournament season?
Hazi: I think the best thing is to get the most confidence that I can for the spring. We all know it’s going to be a great year, and I want to be in my best shape to make it the best year.
W: What are some reasons why this team has such camaraderie this season?
H: To tell you the truth, I don’t know. We all practice really hard and talk about it, so I think it’s good because it increases our commitment.
W: How fast is your serve?
H: The last time I measured it I was 17, and (it) was 195 kilometers per hour (121.17 miles per hour).
W: How does it feel to play the same sport that Maria Sharapova plays?
H: She’s good-looking, but I’m not a big fan. I’m a big fan of Roger Federer.
W: Do you see the tennis ball as yellow or green?
H: Yellow.
W: Are you superstitious?
H: I like to do the same thing if it works well. Let’s say I’m playing a tournament in the first round, I choose to receive (the serve), and I won. I’ll choose to receive every match and keep the same warm up and same breakfast.
W: Best nickname someone has ever given you?
H: Some people call me “”Rav.””
W: Finish the sentence: My ideal wife is …
H: Blonde and stupid. Just kidding. I hope my girlfriend won’t be mad.
W: Kanye West or 50 Cent’s new album?
H: 50 Cent.
W: What kind of racket do you use?
H: I used to play with Head all my life. Just in the last few days I changed to Babolat.
W: What do you miss from (Hazi’s hometown Rishon LeZion,) Israel?
H: Mom’s food, dance parties and the beach.
