The No. 1 Arizona men’s swim team performed well after a slow start in the morning during preliminary events Thursday. Even though they were shaky in the beginning, the Wildcats were able to pull off some strong finishes.
The UA currently sits in third place behind Stanford, which is riding a 30-year winning streak at the conference championships, and second-place Cal.
Sophmore Woody Joye posted a time of 1.45.79 and placed fifth in the 200-meter individual medley. Senior Corey Chitood came right behind, placing sixth and clocking a time of 1.45.92.
In a later event, senior Adam Small finished third and posted a 19.71 time for the 50-yard freestyle while senior Kelley Wyman placed sixth with a time of 19.93.
The Wildcats will take the pool for competition again today, with events starting with the prelims of the 400 individual medley, 100 fly, 200 freestyle, 100 breast stroke, 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay at noon and concluding with the finals at 7 p.m.
