UA men’s golf will get their 2017 schedule started by hosting the Arizona Intercollegiate Tournament beginning on Monday, Jan. 23. The two-day tournament will be held at par-71 Sewailo Golf Club for the fourth consecutive year. The first 36 holes will be played at 8 a.m. MST on Monday, and the final 18 will be played on Tuesday.
Arizona will compete against 17 programs from across the country, five of them coming from the Pac-12 Conference. Teams playing in Tucson include the 2016 defending national champion Oregon Ducks and the No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies. Other teams include Iowa State, Washington, UCLA and UTEP.
“Our team is looking forward to the opportunity to compete on a great golf course with top competition in Tucson this week,” said head coach Jim Anderson.
Freshman David Laskin and Brad Reeves will make their Arizona debuts in the tournament. Juniors George Cunningham and Jordan Gumberg, along with senior Redford Bobbitt, round out the Wildcats competing this week.
“Our team has played very well preparing this week, so it will be fun to let them show what we can do,” Anderson said. “The most important thing for us will be remaining patient and embracing difficult conditions. We need to be ready to compete in any weather conditions. With great challenge comes a great opportunity.”
Admission to the event is free, but if you can’t make it you can follow the action live on golfstat.com.
