On Wednesday, five student-athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to join Arizona men’s golf in 2014-15.
George Cunningham, Henry Cunningham, Max Donohue, Peter Koo and Austin Stadeli are the new Wildcats.
Head coach Jim Anderson said that the signees have enough talent to compete for conference and national championships.
“The class we were able to sign this year is just another confirmation that the University of Arizona is a premier institution for great young players to both develop their games and earn valuable degrees,” Anderson said in a press release.
George Cunningham is the No. 2 overall recruit in his class in the ratings by Golf Week and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). George Cunningham is a Tucson native who has represented the U.S. at golf events in France and China.
“George has taken his game all over the world to compete, and he brings a wealth of experience into the next phase of his career,” Anderson said.
Henry Cunningham, a transfer from Pima Community College, is George’s older brother and he is a two-time participant at the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship in China.
Anderson said Henry Cunningham will bring some experience and maturity to the UA golf program that will help with the incoming class.
“He has experienced high levels of competition and won’t shy away from the competitive nature of major college golf,” Anderson said.
Donohue has recorded four top-four finishes in AJGA play, including a win at the AJGA Junior at Quad Cities in 2011, and he is a two-time USGA Junior qualifier.
The Sioux Falls, S.D. native led Sioux Falls O’Gorman to South Dakota AA team state championships in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
Anderson said Donohue will be a great fit for the program they are trying to build for the future.
Koo has 10-career AJGA top-10 finishes and is ranked 24th overall and 13th in his class in the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings. He has qualified for the U.S. Public Links at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, and was the Player of the Year at the PGA Southwest Section in 2010.
Stadeli is a Scottsdale native who owns three top-10 finishes in AJGA competition. Stadeli is a lefty who has a lot of shots around the green.
Arizona golf will resume in January when they host the Arizona Intercollegiate at Sewailo Golf Club.
