The No. 24 Arizona women’s tennis team continued its winning ways when it defeated No. 74 North Carolina State Wednesday.

Sophomore Kim Stubbe, one of Arizona’s more important players, was
held out of action. She tweaked her ankle yesterday at practice and decided to sit out for this match on account of conference playing beginning next week.

“I am very proud of the way we played today without Kim (Stubbe),”
head coach Vicky Maes said. “I was a little nervous going into today having a very reliable player down, but we made the adjustments and came out strong.”

After sweeping the Wolfpack in doubles, the Wildcats dominated in singles play.

Sophomore Susan McRann claimed the first singles play point for the Wildcats. McRann held NC State’s Elisha Hande to one game in the first set with a score of 6-1. In the second set McRann shutout Hande with a score of 6-0.

Next to finish for the Wildcats was senior Natasha Marks. The
Wolfpack’s Tatiana Illova was no match for the England native as she defeated Illova 6-2, 6-0.

Arizona’s record improves to 10-3 for the season and 8-0 at home.

“We have a momentum going,” Maes said. “The girls are confident in their game, and it will be nice to have a small break this weekend before we jump into a tough match against Washington State.”

The Wildcats will begin conference play on Thursday, March 16 as they travel to Washington State.
